National exports increased in 2017

July 31, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The export sector looks favorably on the semiannual results for 2017.

After goods exports grew 8%, free-zone companies increased production by 12%, and companies in the definitive regime grew by 4%.

This shows that a thriving sector, if it receives more stimuli, could improve one of the problems of the country: unemployment, since we are one of the main sectors generating jobs,”

said Laura Bonilla, president of the Chamber of Exporters of Costa Rica (CADEXCO).

The agency pointed out that these sectors are key to employment generation and national economic growth, and have called for actions to improve the lack of competitiveness facing the sector in key areas.

For example, CADEXCO has insisted on the need for a balanced exchange rate policy, reducing electricity rates and strengthening logistics and transportation infrastructure .
