NCG rescued injured hawk in Guanacaste

December 21, 2017 by Staff News Writer

MSP

Agents of the National Coast Guard Service, of the Ministry of Public Security, rescued an adult hawk on Wednesday morning in Flamingo de Santa Cruz, Guanacaste.

The bird had several injuries, especially in legs and claws, which prevented it from flying.

The crab-eating sparrow hawk arrived at a hotel in this coastal community, where it was captured by Coast Guard officers, to take it to a local veterinarian where it is now receiving treatment. Officers found the bird very weak, but authorities believe it will recover to be returned to its habitat in the Flamingo estuary.

The agents of this Public Security police force, in addition to ensuring coastal security, have knowledge and training to deal with this type of situation.
