Nearly 1,000 motions await the Government’s tax reform text

August 14, 2018 by Staff News Writer

A total of 907 motions were presented this Tuesday before the Secretariat of the Legislative Directorate to seek modifications to the substitute text of the law to strengthen public finances.

Wálter Muñoz, president of the National Integration Party (PIN) noted that they submitted about 200 motions, but warned that they will not vote on the bill when it reaches the Legislative Plenary.

Therefore, they are concentrated in proposals for reactivating the economy and generating employment and not in anything related to new taxes.

People must understand that more taxes are paid here than in other countries and we do not see the results. Taxes for what? For advertising? For trips?”

asked the legislator.

In the ruling party considered this number of motions as an achievement after the negotiations of the Ministry of Finance with the different groups.

They have held intense negotiations with all the fractions and sectors for 22 days, agreements have been reached such as basic basket, medicines, rentals, on issues of what is the amount are charged for electricity consumption, etc., in all sensitive topics. I would expect the substitute text to be supportive of all the fractions or of a significant number,”

said Welmer Ramos, from PAC.

This number of motions is only slightly lower than the 1,008 submitted last July, of which, 500 were presented by Dragos Dolanescu, legislator of the Republican Social Christian Party (PRSC) who until noon on Tuesday, had submitted 46.
