Neighbors from El Huazo closed access to the landfill

June 6, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Neighbors of the sanitary landfill of El Huazo, located between Aserrí and Desamparados, closed the access to the place this Tuesday, during the celebration of the World Environment Day.

They made the decision as a protest against the Ebi company that administers the site, as they believe it affects their health. The company has been in charge since 2006 and, although the landfill is located in Aserrí, garbage trucks pass through Desamparados. It receives about 1700 tons of waste from the Greater Metropolitan Area (GAM).

The Public Force guarded the demonstration, which did not have incidents, and ended around noon, after neighbors from nearby towns met in the communal hall of El Llano along with a representative of the Ministry of Health and the mayors of Aserrí and Desamparados to find an early solution to the problems that afflict them.
