Netanyahu: “it was all a misunderstanding”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tried to calm Mexico down by suggesting that the crisis that prompted his statement on the wall that Donald Trump wants to build on the southern border of the United States is just a “misunderstanding”.

On January 28th, he twitted this:

President Trump is right. I built a wall along Israel’s southern border. It stopped all illegal immigration. Great success. Great idea.

However, this statement provoked a furious response from Mexico and authorities demanded an explanation from the Israeli ambassador to Mexico. Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray asked Tel Aviv to apologize.

the Israeli prime minister declared that Israel would “continue to have good relations” with Mexico.

In addition, Netanyahu also tried to explain the meaning of his tweet, in which he wanted to underline the success of Israel’s security wall (with Egypt), but he did not mention anything on relations between the United States and Mexico and he did not apologize.

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin telephoned Peña Nieto on January 31st.

I am sure no one tried to compare the situation in which Israel and Mexico are,

declared the president.

Asked about Mexico’s apology, Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon answered that he had “no response for the time being.”
