New earthquake shook the country on Sunday

November 12, 2017 by Staff News Writer

A strong earthquake of 6.5 degrees shook most of the national territory on Sunday night.

According to the National Seismological Network of the University of Costa Rica, the epicenter was in Jacó in the canton of Garabito de Puntarenas, in the Central Pacific. The Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI) agrees with that calculation and estimates the earthquake had a 6.7 degree of intensity.

According to the OVSICORI, the telluric event had a depth of 10 kilometers and was located southeast of Jacó.

Minutes later, a 5.1 degree replica was perceived. At 8:36 pm a new replica of 4.1 was felt.

The Fire Department and the Red Cross carry out monitoring.
