New tools to recruit police officers

January 11, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Ministry of Public Security announced new tools to recruit police officers.

According to Bernardita Marín, deputy minister of Public Security, at this moment the institution is in a process that tries to expedite the recruitment of new officers.

The authority said that they are having difficulties because most people don’t show up for the psychological, so they are trying to implement measures to solve the situation.

Before, the call for the tests was done through e-mail and now is done through text messages.

At the same time, applicants may call phone number 25864242 so that a group of officials answer some specific questions they may have.

In the coming days we will implement other mechanisms, including an explanatory video with information that will be available on the website,”

said the official.

The deputy Minister of Public Security said that yesterday and today they had the first calls for psychological tests of the year, where nearly 900 people are called.

We are raising the percentage of applicants, however it is still low. Therefore, we ask people to make their applications only if they are truly interested,”

added Marín.

According to the woman, people can retake the psychological test a year after they fail it, but the pre-employment interview, which is the last filters applied by the Ministry, cannot be repeated.

We want to recruit the best of the best (…) That does not mean that those who fail are bad people or have any problems, they just do not fit the profile of a cop,”

clarified Marín, who added that a police officer must have certain skills that not everyone has, such as visual acuity or physical condition, as they will be working 12 hours on the streets with wind, cold and heat.

The authority also said that in 2017 they should recruit 1,500 police officers.
