No improvement: Costa Rica has one of the worst 4G networks on the planet

November 2, 2017 by Staff News Writer

A new report prepared by the international company OpenSignal positions Costa Rica as the country with the worst 4G LTE network on the planet, only above India.

The analysis was carried out from July 1st to October 1st, and it was released on Wednesday in the United Kingdom.

The country reported an average speed of 6.98 Megabits per second (Mbps) in 4G networks. Meanwhile, India registered 6.13 Mbps.

Singapore, the country with the most favorable indicators, registers an average of 46.64 Mbps.

Compared to the report published in June with data collected from January to March, the Costa Rican position ‘improved’ slightly by climbing one position and leaving the last place in the hands of India.

The 4G LTE network, unlike its predecessors such as the 3G network, provides faster voice or mobile data services. This network allows speeds 10 times greater than the 3G network and 250 times more than the 2G.

It is easy to see the countries that have maximized the accessibility of their 4G services and at the same time maintain superior technical capacities: Hungary, Holland, Norway, Singapore and South Korea. In the other end, there are countries that are still in their infancy regarding 4G: Algeria, Costa Rica, Pakistan, the Philippines and Sri Lanka,”

cites the report.

Regarding the availability of the 4G LTE network, the country is not last but it is in the last places. Costa Rica enjoys an indicator of 60.43% in this area, while the last one is Algeria with 41.50%.

The report prepared by OpenSignal analyzes the situation of 77 countries from different continents. In total, more than 50 million connections were studied, in more than three million mobile devices.
