No material damage reported after earthquakes

July 21, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The National Emergency Commission (CNE) reported that last night’s seismicity in the area of the Poas volcano did not result in incidents. So far no emergency or material damage has been reported via 9-1-1.

However, the ranger house was evacuated as a preventive measure, because it is located in the area of the epicenters,”

said the CNE.

OVICORI said that

after the earthquake at 17:52 this afternoon, with a magnitude of 3.7 degrees, located north of the Poás Volcano, approximately 70 replicates have followed. The highest-magnitude replicas were at 5:58 p.m. at 2.7 degrees and at 6:17 with a at 3.2 degrees. At this time, the volcano maintains normal activity, with a vapor and gas plume going northwest, and presence of incandescence. OVSICORI remains vigilant of seismic and volcanic activity in the country.”
