OAS approves meeting of foreign ministers on May 31st due to crisis in Venezuela

May 16, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Organization of American States (OAS) approved a meeting of foreign ministers on May 31st to discuss the crisis in Venezuela.

On April 26th, the Permanent Council of the OAS convened a meeting of foreign ministers to assess the situation in Venezuela, a step that Caracas has warned will force its withdrawal from the continental institution.

After almost a year of deliberations and four sessions in the last month on the Venezuelan case, a majority of 19 countries approved to raise the debate to the level of foreign ministers.
