Panama arrested Costa Rican wanted by the US

September 12, 2019 by Staff News Writer

A 43-year-old Costa Rican man named Arias Leiva was arrested on Wednesday afternoon by the units of the Subdirectorate of Judicial Investigation in the province of Chiriquí, Panama, near the border with Paso Canoas, according to local media.

There was an Interpol alert on him, as he was apparently wanted by a Texan Court, in the United States, for the crimes of Conspiracy in Drug Trafficking and Drug Trafficking. The subject was immediately arrested.

Now, the Panamanian authorities coordinate with the United States with the objective of starting the deportation process and complying with the requirements demanded by the United States in justice.

Apparently Leiva intended to enter Panama when his identity was verified by the officers of the neighboring country.
