Passenger wanted to board a plane while armed at the Juan Santamaría airport

November 2, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Officers of the Airport Police, from the Directorate of the Air Surveillance Service (SVA) of the Ministry of Public Security, detected a passenger who intended to board the plane while armed.

The incident occurred in the main air terminal of the country, the Juan Santamaría International Airport, when the agents of the Airport Police saw that the man was carrying a weapon in his luggage, a non-permitted and no-declared item.

Therefore, they proceeded to conduct a more thorough checkup and they found a compressed air weapon that was inside the passenger’s suitcase, which had not been reported to the authorities. The officers retained the article that subsequently had to be claimed by the traveler.

The authorities indicated that another consequence for the passenger was that the airline indicated he could not travel on that flight, due to the company’s internal security protocol. Therefore, he was escorted to the exit of the terminal and was invited to declare this type of item to be able to travel.
