Patients from San Juan de Dios Hospital will be sent to 4 medical centers

November 15, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Due to the collapse in the service by San Juan de Dios Hospital this weekend, it was decided to take the interim measure of sending patients to 4 medical centers in order to decongest the emergency service.

On Monday, 93 people were waiting for a bed and attention in the hospital.

Eugenia María Villalta, medical manager of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS), explained that they will resort to the Hospital of Women, the Cais de Desamparados, the Geriatric Hospital and the National Rehabilitation Centre (CENARI) for transferring patients.

We are going to send patients to solve the situation and returning the emergency department back to normal,”

said the official.

It was also reported that in the coming days they will monitor the situation and open emergency services in other clinics to send patients with low-complexity cases.
