Patricia Mora demands resignation of SUTEL board of directors

November 15, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Patricia Mora, from Frente Amplio, demanded the resignation of the Board of Directors of the Superintendence of Telecommunications (SUTEL).

The legislator asked them to leave their positions after the decision of the Administrative Dispute Court to annul a fine of ¢ 2,157 million that SUTEL imposed on the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity (ICE) for alleged anti-competitive practices against the firm Telefónica de Costa Rica.

This company filed a lawsuit against ICE for anti-competitive practices in the case known as “extreme chip promotions.” As a result, SUTEL punished ICE, but the latter raised the case to the Contentious Court.

SUTEL participated in Movistar’s game to undermine ICE and that is why I have come to demand the resignation of the members of the Board of Directors of SUTEL, and to tell that company that it they have done enough of moves against our telecommunications company,”

said Mora in an intervention in the Legislative Plenary.

The legislator also requested that the costs of the trial not be transferred to the telecommunications users, but that they be assumed by the SUTEL officials who ordered sanctions against ICE.
