Patrol security cameras to fight crime

February 8, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Municipal Police of Escazú implemented a pilot security plan. As a result, it bought some BodyCam and DashCam cameras with the aim of being tested on the police ground.

According to José Rodolfo Ibarra, press officer from the Municipal Police of Escazú, the DashCam is attached to the patrol and the BodyCam is attached to the bulletproof vest and their purpose is to leave evidence of the police operation.

He explained that the use of a camera attached to the body is useful when the officer leaves the patrol.

According to Ibarra, continuous recording systems have a memory of 32 megs and they are class 10, which means that they can record videos almost with the quality of television.

There was a procedure that the Municipal Police of Escazú performed this morning and it was filmed in the cameras: officers spotted a motorcycle without a license plate. Authorities asked the young people to stop, but instead, they accelerated and fled. As consequence, the persecution started and they were later captured. The incident occurred in Palo Mango Street in Escazú. Once they were captured, it was discovered that they carried marijuana. They were later released because marijuana use is not a crime.

Ibarra said that with this video it was possible to see everything from the beginning and its format also allows to learn and review street procedures

He added that at the end of the year, all patrols and officers are expected to have these cameras.
