Pence offered Solís cooperation to continue ongoing programs

December 14, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The phone call between the President Luis Guillermo Solis and US Vice President-elect, Michael Pence, was a friendly one without further details on specific aspects.

According to Solís, days after the election of Donald Trump as president of the American nation, he followed the protocol through the Embassy of that country to call and congratulate the winning team. However, he could not talk to Trump or Pence.

But the Vice President-elect called Solís on December 8th.

We talked about the old friendship of Costa Rica with the United States, about our common ideals. He offered cooperation to continue with ongoing programs,”

said Solís, who assured that the conversation did not last more than 5 minutes.

The President spoke to Pence on the last meeting between the two governments in Washington, where they signed collaboration agreements to fight organized crimes with aircrafts.

I think it was a good gesture of friendship between two peoples who respect and admire each other,”

said the President, who added that Pence asked him to call him “Mike”.
