Penitentiary Police rules out mass escape plan in La Reforma

December 20, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Prison Police rule out a plan of massive escape in La Reforma prison, as reported by the media following a car accident during the weekend.

The vehicle collided against one of the gates of the prison, then entered the area known as the “Roundabout” and left. This gate is located in the back of La Reforma and it is not the main access gate for the post 1.

According to the report by the penitentiary police, the driver was allegedly drunk and driving at a high speed, so he could not take the curve of the road and skidded toward the gate. Therefore, they activated the security protocols.

That gate was enabled several months ago as a passageway for heavy machinery from the private company that builds the Integrated Care Unit. It is false that this gate leads directly to the armory and the area of Maximum Security, as both buildings are located on the opposite side.

Therefore, the prison police ruled out that the incident had anything to do with a rehearsal for a massive escape.
