Last Sunday, dozens of people had one of the best experiences of their lives when they visited Playa Grande in Guanacaste.

A baby whale ran aground in the sand of this beach in Santa Cruz and could not return to the sea. That is why a group o people united to push the animal back to its habitat. The special moment was captured by one of the participants. The video was uploaded by the tourist agency Explornatura.

Some of our clients helped in the rescue of this ballenato,”

the company wrote in its social networks.

Adriana Lorenzo, from Explornatura, told CRHoy.com that it took about 45 minutes to help the cetacean. They consulted with an expert and he told them that the whale was a tropical rorqual species (Balaenoptera edeni), also known as rorcual de Eden or dwarf rorqual.

However, the same specialist said that she had little chance of surviving, because she is a newborn, had a wound on her side and was alone, without her mother in sight. According to some reports, it had beached at Tamarindo beach as well, very close to the area.

Playa Grande is an essential part of the Las Baulas National Marine Park and one of the most beautiful areas in the country. It is also a nesting site for the leatherback turtle.
