Plaza de la Democracia is the main option for transfer of powers

April 11, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The transfer of powers committee is in a hurry to organize the inauguration of Carlos Alvarado Quesada and its main option is Plaza de la Democracia. This was confirmed by a member of the transfer committee, who asked to remain anonymous.

The official communication of the headquarters for the activity will be held from Friday until next Monday, according to Dora Nigro, member of the committee of the transfer of powers.

Although Nigro said that she was not authorized to confirm the place, she did indicate that Plaza de la Democracia meets the requirements that the president-elect had listed for the event: an inclusive , democratic place that allows to carry out an austere activity. Alvarado has been clear that the National Stadium was discarded, because having the ceremony in that site involves a series of expenses for the State. For example, enabling a stage in the Stadium plus covering the grass would consume about 50% of the budget, which was set at ¢100 million for all the protocol activities. This would not be necessary in Plaza de la Democracia or the other place they have in mind.

Nigro confirmed that they will adjust to the budget and that this time there will be no traditional cocktail offered by the new president the night before or the usual lunch after the formal ceremony. In addition, the ¢100 million must cover not only the organization of the previous president’s dinner, but also the formal act of taking possession and a subsequent reception where the new president will greet other heads of state.
