PLN Demands Government Chinese Cement Credit Explanations

July 3, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The National Liberation Party (PLN) demanded explanations from the Government for the $20 million credit that the Bank of Costa Rica (BCR) granted for the import of cement from China.

This was announced by the faction of the PLN in a press release highlighting the public confession of the President of the Republic, Luis Guillermo Solís, to have received the importer of Chinese cement in the Presidential House.

Prendas stated that they are ready to open spaces and convene all the hierarchs, including the President of the Republic and the Minister of the Presidency, Sergio Alfaro, to clarify the doubts on the matter, since the explanations provided so far have been insufficient and contradictory, as evidenced by the profound difference between the president of BCR, Paola Mora, and the rest of the board.

According to the PLN, what has been revealed on the import of Chinese cement to Costa Rica is a network of actions is drawn up by the Government, some politicians and the BCR to favor a company with the argument of promoting competition in the cement market.

The legislator also asked to hold people accountable for this.
