Poás reduces activity and maintains modest steam plume

April 24, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Poás Volcano has a smaller eruptive activity this Monday, compared to what was reported over the weekend.

An overflight made this morning by a team from the National University’s Volcanological and Seismological Observatory (OVSICORI-UNA) showed a modest water vapor plume.

Eliécer Duarte, a vulcanologist, commented that the cloudiness in the area did not allow to gather more information about the colossus, but the seismic signal reveals two or three eruptions that occurred during the night, which could emanate minimal material that remained in the surroundings of the colossus.

Duarte commented that the overflight is routine and that they expected it to be in better conditions but it was not.

Poás activity this weekend was extremely intense.
