Poás Volcano maintains strong activity

Poás Volcano maintains strong activity, according to the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI).

According to the report issued at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Poás manintaing strong passive degassing and seismicity is dominated by low frequency volcanic earthquakes and volcano-tectonic earthquakes located within the volcanic building.

The institution added that the gas plume rises no more than 500 meters above the crater and heads north.

So far, no ash fall or sulfur odors are reported.

As for Turrialba Volcano, it also maintains a passive degassing process and occasional short exhalations with low ash content.

Seismicity in this volcano is dominated by low frequency volcanic earthquakes and occasional short tremors of low amplitude. The plume does not rise more than 300 meters and goes northwest.

Rincón de la Vieja Volcano, on the other hand, does not register any important activity in the last 24 hours.
