Poás Volcano National Park will reopen on Wednesday

October 9, 2018 by Staff News Writer

After the temporary closure of Poás volcano on Tuesday, authorities from SINAC and MINAE informed that the park will open again on Wednesday.

Rafael Gutiérrez, director of the central region of SINAC, indicated that according to the measurements and field work carried out by volcanologists, the conditions are within a normal range, which is why it can be opened with regulated management.

It is worth mentioning that as a preventive measure against an increase in seismic activity and the emission of gases, the National Emergency Commission (CNE) confirmed the temporary closure of the volcano on Tuesday. Alexander Solís, director of the CNE, explained on Tuesday in the Government Council, that the measure was taken for 24 hours to monitor the behavior of the colossus.

The national park reopened at the beginning of September after being totally closed as a result of the eruptive cycle in the first quarter of 2017.

The reopening was possible thanks to the construction of shelters in the viewpoint of the crater, the provision of relief equipment in case of a sudden eruption, among other details.
