Poás Volcano was active all night long

April 18, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Poás volcano remains active after the last known eruption that occurred at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Eliécer Duarte, an expert from the Costa Rican Volcanological and Seismological Observatory (OVSICORI) reported that the seismic signal was maintained throughout the night and early morning and that even the neighbors observed the output of incandescent materials on the top.

The seismic record shows a fairly constant and sustained activity, and shows not only volcanic earthquakes, but a major tremor that has lasted for hours. The tremor band that remains did not stop from 11:00 p.m. until this morning, coincides with low material output,”

said Duarte.

Authorities closed the park indefinitely.
