Police arrest migrant smuggler in Los Chiles

April 22, 2019 by Staff News Writer

On April 20th, a Nicaraguan man was arrested for the crime of migrant trafficking during the actions carried out by the Professional Migration Police due to the Holy Week Operation.

In a roadblock, in the area known as Pilas de Oro in Las Tablillas (Los Chiles, border with Nicaragua), immigration officers detected a vehicle driven by a man named Zapata, who was transferring three foreigners with an irregular immigration status, including a minor.

The individual tried to flee at high speed, so the Migration police proceeded to chase him to an area of the old garbage dump, the road to Los Chiles, where the vehicle went off the track because of the high speed.

Zapata, who has residency in the country, was presented to the Office of the Prosecutor for the crime of migrant smuggling and is being prosecuted by Flagrancia.
