Police investigate fire in official’s vehicle

July 2, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Prison officer Michael Sequeira’s vehicle was burned down on Saturday morning, in front of the Sandoval prison in Limón.

Sequeira already filed the complaint before the Judicial Investigation Agency and, according to Pablo Bertozzi, director of the penitentiary police, they will open an administrative investigation to determine the motives behind the event.

The officer fears that the action is retaliation for not accepting ¢500 thousand from an inmate who wanted to introduce a phone to the prison a year ago. Sequeira reported the situation and the subject was transferred to the La Reforma.

Until Sunday morning, the high prison authorities had not talked to Sequeira, who feared for his life and for his relatives.
