Police shot illegal fisherman who attacked him with a machete

During an operation against illegal fishing carried out yesterday, some fishermen reacted aggressively.

These people threw stones and beat five police officers of the Public Force. The incident occurred in Playa Manzanillo in the Gulf of Nicoya.

According to Carlos Hidalgo, a spokesman for the Ministry of Public Security, they have a prisoner for aggravated resistance.

This person tried to attack one of the officers with a machete, so the policeman shot him and wounded him. The subject was arrested and is now out of danger.”

Hidalgo said that during these operations the Coast Guard works on the sea and they have support from the Public Force and personnel of INCOPESCA by land.
