Pope Francis: “From now on, priests can absolve the sin of abortion”

November 21, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Pope Francis indefinitely extended the ability of priests to absolve the “sin of abortion” by perpetuating a temporary measure that had been established for the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, which was closed on November 20th.

So that there is no obstacle between the request for reconciliation and forgiveness of God, from now on I give all priests the power to absolve those who have committed the sin of abortion,

wrote the Pope in an apostolic letter.

I want to emphasize that abortion is a serious sin because it ends an innocent, human life. With the same energy, however, I can and must say that there is no sin that God’s mercy can not reach and destroy when there is a repentant heart,

added Pope Francis.
