Presidency and legislators set priority issues for last year of government

April 18, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Legislative and the Executive Powers met to define the priority issues for the agenda of the regular sessions, which will begin on May 1st.

Sergio Alfaro, Minister of the presidency, commented that the first issue that was defined as a priority is the bill on non-financial professional activities, which is a reform of the Narcotics Law to include more activities as supervised subjects.

This is a fundamental law in the face of the process we are pursuing for FATF and in the process of fulfilling the requirements of that international organization, whose purpose is financial transparency,”

said Alfaro.

Another topic that was defined is the Law of Extinction of Dominion and the project of Incorporation to the Convention of Bribery of the OECD.

Other bills were also discussed, some of which are fundamental,”

said Alfaro.

Laura Garro, legislator from the Citizen Action Party (PAC), said they will be willing to support the bribe project and the legislation required to approach the FATF.

Edgardo Araya said that Frente Amplio has always been eager to support issues related to transparency.

The issues of pensions and the elections of the Legislative Directory next May 1st were not discussed in this meeting.
