Presidency leaves decision on cementazo in the hands of the BCR

November 22, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Presidential House decided to leave the decision of denouncing or not the cementazo case in the hands of the Bank of Costa Rica. In Zapote, they assured that the board of directors, recently appointed by the Governing Council has the responsibility to make this decision.

The BCR has not presented any civil lawsuit to date, despite the possibility of suffering damage to the property due to the credit granted to Chinese cement importer Juan Carlos Bolaños, and whose guarantee was said cement.

There are a number of matters that are the exclusive right of the bank’s board of directors and they will take the necessary decisions to ensure that their assets are not damaged and to guarantee the credibility and soundness of the bank in all its aspects,”

said Mauricio Herrera, Minister of Communication on Tuesday.

The Governing Council acts as majority shareholder of the BCR and therefore makes decisions such as the formation of the board of directors; however, they assure that in this other type of decision the responsibility will be exclusive of the board.

That means that they will not promote the civil process nor will they oppose it if the BCR decides to denounce.
