President and minister cancel trip to the US over strike

September 17, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The public employees’ strike against the fiscal plan prevented President Carlos Alvarado and Commerce Minister Dyala Jiménez from traveling this week to Silicon Valley, in the San Francisco Bay area of California, on a tour to attract investments. This sector is home to many emerging and global technology companies.

On Monday, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Trade (COMEX) announced the suspension of the visit.

Minister Jiménez was scheduled to tour to attract new investments to the country during this week. However, she decided to cancel the trip and be of service for the President and the export sector,”

said COMEX on Monday afternoon.

The strike could hinder not only this tour to attract investments, it also threatens the first appearance of Alvarado in the 73rd General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), in New York.
