President of the Court files complaint over insulting image

September 21, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Carlos Chinchilla, President of the Supreme Court of Justice, filed a complaint with the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) due to an image going around in social media that contains threatening content and insulting phrases against him.

The homicides referred to in the image are the one of Canadian Elias Akl, which occurred on May 15th, and the one of Eddy Cuadra Seas, on July 30th.

However, the Office of the OIJ, by letter No. 1137-DG-17 dated September 21st, 2017, indicated that there are no pressures,

orders, suggestions or guidelines by Judge Carlos Chinchilla regarding investigations into homicides or investigations conducted by the judicial police.

We are absolutely categorical and emphatic in rejecting the existence of orders, pressures, directives or suggestions from Mr. Chinchilla regarding the investigations that we have carried out into the mentioned murders or about any other inquiries that the OIJ maintains or develops at this time, which obviously means that there has been no interference of any kind by the Chief Justice of the Court in these inquiries,”

said the OIJ document.
