President Solís will travel to the UN on Saturday and will return next week

September 15, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Next Sunday, President Luis Guillermo Solís will participate in his last General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) as president of Costa Rica.

Solís will be accompanied by Vice President Ana Helena Chacón, Chancellor Manuel González, Foreign Trade Minister Alexander Mora, as well as the ministers of Environment and Energy, Edgar Gutiérrez and the Minister of the Status of Women, Alejandra Mora.

According to the president, Chacón will cover her expenses, as she will also travel to lobby her postulation to the position of Director of the United Nations Fund for the population, which Costa Rica will promote.

In addition, the Minister of Environment has his own agenda, being the president of the United Nations Environment Council.
Solís will give a speech at the Plenary Assembly on Tuesday afternoon, where he will speak about demilitarization, disarmament and denuclearization, after Costa Rica chaired the UN council for nuclear disarmament.

In addition, he will hold bilateral meetings with Heads of State from different countries, which were not released, and convened a high-level meeting with presidents to discuss wages for women, as well as economic empowerment.

The President will also have a meeting with the Secretary General of the UN, the Portuguese Antonio Guterres.
