Prices remained stable in April

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) calculated by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) to estimate inflation registered a small negative variation during April.

According to the data compiled by the institution, in the fourth month of the year there was a variation in the general price level of -0.08%, for an accumulated annual variation of 0.51%.

The groups with the greatest contribution to the variation of the CPI in April were: Food and non-alcoholic beverages, and Furniture, articles for housing and domestic service.

Of the 315 goods and services that make up the consumer basket, 51% increased in price, 36% decreased in price, and 13% did not change.

During April, the goods and services that showed the greatest negative effect were: tomato, onion and gasoline. On the other hand, domestic service, urban bus, and eggs were among the main items with the greatest positive effect.
