Producers affected by drought received 500 million

July 25, 2016 by Staff News Writer

During the Presidential tour in Guanacaste, 500 million colones were granted to more than 10,171 farmers who were affected by the drought.

The funds come from the National Emergency Commission (CNE) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) and were invested in machinery (265 milion) and inputs (233 milion).

Iván Brenes, president of the CNE, said that the drought had a direct impact on the Costa Rican quality of life, as well as in the agricultural sector, showing worrying levels of water shortages.

Therefore, the CNE and the MAG joined to try and solve the situation.

The House of Stockbreeders and the Federation of Chambers of Guanacaste also received tractors, mowers, balers, tweezer loaders, forage harvesters, harrows and grass choppers, among other equipment.
