Project against plastic pollution does not convince the government

October 30, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The bill passed Monday by legislators to fight plastic pollution in the country does not satisfy the government.

On Tuesday, the Minister of the Presidency, Víctor Morales Mora, admitted that the Executive Branch would have preferred a “more robust” legislation than the one passed in the first debate by 44 legislators on Monday.

In terms of plastic, of course, it seems to us that this is not enough. We would have wanted a much more robust legislation. But we will have to continue working so that we can improve the legislation,”

said Morales.

During its processing in the Environment Commission in Congress the bill 20985 to fight plastic pollution in the country was weakened, compared to what it initially proposed.

The core point of the initiative is the ban on the commercialization and free delivery of disposable plastic straws and bags throughout the national territory.
