Prosecutor sued cementazo suspects and Juan Carlos Bolaños companies

November 30, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Attorney General of the Republic filed a civil action for compensation against the seven people who are serving preventive custody for the cementazo case and against the companies of the JCB group and Juan Carlos Bolaños.

The Attorney General’s Office, participated in the investigations carried out by the Public Ministry and from which a possible patrimonial damage could be derived, due to the loans granted by the public banks to the companies of the Chinese cement importer.

The amount that the Attorney General’s Office is requesting is still unknown, because the investigations are ongoing.

This civil action by the Attorney General takes place in the midst of criticism that has been made to the Bank of Costa Rica, an entity that, up to now, has not presented any accusation in this case.

On November 17th, the press asked BCR if the institution would be part of the process with a civil lawsuit, before the possibility of suffering a patrimonial damage for the credit granted to Bolaños and whose guarantee was the cement imported from China.

The BCR Press Office, through an email, indicated that as victims of the process and in the case of crimes of public action they could be placed under the protection of the Public Prosecutor, both civilly and criminally, but, for now, they haven’t.

On Wednesday, the Public Ministry raided the offices and houses of legislators Víctor Morales Zapata, Otto Guevara and also the Deputy Minister of Finance, Fernando Rodríguez, as part of the investigations.
