Prosecutor’s Office: Popular gave $5 million to Bolaños without analyzing capacity to pay

On Wednesday morning, the Public Ministry said that Banco Popular granted $5 million to the Chinese cement importer Juan Carlos Bolaños without analyzing the payment capacity or the risks of the loan.

For this reason, the authorities arrested three bank officials and two managers of Sinocem company, They are still looking for a four suspect.

In total, four homes were raided in Grecia and Tres Ríos, a customs agency in Tibás, a shipping agency in Escazú and four branches of Banco Popular in San José, Sabana, San Pedro and Pavas.

In addition, a trust contract is being sought at the Improsa bank in Barrio Escalante.

The arrested suspects are managers of Sinocem named Rojas and Cortés, the credit analyst Bogantes Brenes and the business executive Gómez Barrantes.

In addition, a business banking executive named Alpízar Hidalgo was also arrested. Authorities are trying to locate an official named Delgado Negrini. Officials are attributed the crime of embezzlement.

According to Navas, the company would have used the same documentation with which it obtained another loan that is being investigated for $ 30 million with the Bank of Costa Rica.
