Public employees will receive bonuses on Wednesday

December 10, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The Ministry of Finance announced that it will deposit around ¢208 billion as a bonus for a total of 213,126 active officials of the Ministries, attached institutions, the Legislative Assembly, the Judiciary, the Ombudsman’s Office, the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic, and pensioners charged to the National Budget on December 12th.

Minister of Finance Rocío Aguilar said this is possible thanks to the resources coming from the payment of taxes, the placements with institutions, as well as the placement contracts and the merger by absorption of Bancrédito with the Bank of Costa Rica.

Aguilar added that the Treasury will continue working to guarantee the fulfillment of all the commitments before the end of the year.

To perform the calculation of the bonus, workers must take as a basis the salaries paid or pension received from November 1st, 2017 to October 31st, 2018.

No type of withholding is applied to this payment, with the exception of the alimony pensions, which are deposited, at the latest, two business days later, that is to say on December 14th.
