PUSC legislator candidates sign anti-corruption pledge

October 17, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The candidate of the Christian Social Unity party, Rodolfo Piza, asked the aspiring legislators to sign an ethical commitment against corruption that would force them to resign their candidacy or their position in case of noncompliance.

This weekend, during the national assembly of the party, where the candidacies were ratified in the seven provinces, Piza made the request, which was welcomed by those who will fight to reach the Legislative Assembly for the period 2018-2022.

In recent weeks, legislators of the Christian Social Unity party, Luis Vásquez and Johnny Leiva have been involved with Chinese cement importer Juan Carlos Bolaños, who even led them to be held accountable before the investigative commission of the Legislative Assembly.

Perhaps that prompted the presidential candidate to request this commitment.

So, in what cases should they resign before the Supreme Electoral Tribunal? The document identifies two essential points. The first refers to proven illegal behavior on acts of corruption involving a criminal complaint. The second is serious ethical misconduct that is condemned by the Ethics Court of the party.
