Qatar donates one million dollars to Costa Rica for emergency

December 25, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The state of Qatar donated one million dollars to Costa Rica to restore the affected areas after Hurricane Otto and Tropical Storm Nate.

Through a press release, the Foreign Ministry informed that the money will be deposited in an account of the National Commission of Emergencies (CNE).

Receiving selfless, non-reimbursable help from friendly countries is very significant, because of their generosity. No state has the obligation to help us, however, they do it because of the relationship we have and understanding that, just as they have their problems and difficulties, we also have our own, and we need that collaboration in good faith,”

said Manuel González, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Hurricane Otto hit Costa Rica more than a year ago, in November 2016. This phenomenon caused the death of 10 people and millions of losses, most of them in the Northern Zone of the country, the Caribbean and Guanacaste.
Tropical Storm Nate killed 14 people a few months ago and had an impact on almost the entire country.

The Foreign Ministry reported that the efforts to obtain this donation began weeks after Otto crossed the country.
