Rains caused yellow alert in the North and Central Pacific

October 5, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The National Commission of Emergencies (CNE) issued a yellow alert (preventive) for all the North and Central Pacific, due to the rains. In addition, the green alert (informative) is maintained for the Central Valley, the South Pacific, and the North Zone.

Alexander Solís, president of the CNE, indicated that the rainy pattern is expected to continue. The National Meteorological Institute (IMN) explained that these conditions respond to two low pressure systems, one in the Caribbean Sea and the other in the Pacific Ocean, that affect the country.

According to the IMN, intermittent precipitation, between moderate and strong, is expected for the North and Central Pacific. In the South Pacific the rains will be occasional.

The Central Valley will be mostly cloudy, with occasional showers and temperatures that range between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius.

In the Caribbean and the North Zone there will be partial to total cloudiness, with possible rains especially in mountainous areas.

The IMN informed that for this Friday the rainy pattern will be maintained. The strongest activity for October 5th will be registered in the North Pacific.

Because of this, both the IMN and the CNE recommend those who live near rivers and hillsides to be aware of the news and events that could occur. A call was also made to the National Emergency Committees to activate the corresponding protocols.
