RECOPE asks for fuel price increase

June 13, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Costa Rica’s oil refinery (RECOPE) requested authorization to increase gas and diesel prices, for what would be the third rise of 2016.

If the request is approved, a super gas liter would go up from ¢518 to ¢602; regular gas would increase from ¢498 to ¢568/l; and diesel cost would rise from ¢380 to ¢450/l.

Now, the Public Services Regulatory Authority (ARESEP) will study the request and submit it to public consultation. If approved, the increase will come into effect from the second half of July.

RECOPE said raises are needed because international oil prices have gone up.
