Regulations to control cell-phone use in the classroom

August 21, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Ministry of Public Education (MEP) has developed guidelines for the use of cell phones owned by students. The idea is to offer a way for each school to regulate the use of these mobile devices in the classroom.

The regulations offer a series of recommendations for the directors, teachers, students, Administrative Boards, families and the community, aiming to turn mobile devices into allies for a better learning process.

This legislation is an international pioneer. It is the first time that a Ministry of Education issues guidelines for the use of mobile devices as a pedagogical complement in our classrooms,”

said Sonia Marta Mora, Minister of Public Education.

The regulation was issued in two formats: an extensive document that includes details about the legislation, pedagogical aspects and methodological issues, and a poster that concentrates the most relevant aspects for its application in educational centers.

According to Leda Muñoz, Executive Director of the Omar Dengo Foundation, these initiatives contribute to the efficient use of technology

The Omar Dengo Foundation has collaborated with the Ministry of Public Education and various organizations and companies to promote the appropriation of technologies for the development of people’s skills. Under this same logic, today we are pleased to be part of an alliance that seeks to integrate mobile devices into education, for a productive use that significantly affects the lives of students,”

said Muñoz.
