Representative will sue excutive for witholding public records

May 27, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Member of Congress from Guanacaste, Juan Marín from the party Partido de Libeación Nacional has announced that he will appeal in the Constitutional Court to force cabinet members to release information on projects to improve drinking water supply in his region.

In the last 45 days, Marin has sent several letters requesting information to ministers of presidency and environment, Sergio Alfaro and Edgar Gutierrez, respectively.

This wouldn’t be the first time the Constitutional Court has intervened to force members of the executive to release public information. The first case had to do with the log of visitors to the presidential palace, which the president’s office refused to disclose to a representative. The judiciary has also forced the Ministry of Justice to disclose figures of overcrowding in prisons.
