Restoration warns of legal action against technical norm for abortion

October 3, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The legislative section of the National Restoration Party (PRN) warned the President of the Republic, Carlos Alvarado about legal action if he signs the technical norm for therapeutic abortion.

In a press conference, the PRN congressmen said that if the president disregards the request of a majority of Costa Ricans and if he signs the norm,

they will take the relevant legal action against a regulation that seeks to legalize a crime in Costa Rica.”

If the President dares to sign a rule, which violates a right protected in article 21 of the Political Constitution, National Restoration will use all the legal mechanisms to stop it. We will not allow him to promote the death of the unborn in our country. Protection and the right to life is a fundamental right,”

said Carlos Avendaño.

The legislators also reiterated that they oppose any bill that validates same-sex marriage or union.

The head of the bench, Eduardo Cruickshank, lamented that they tried to falsely offer citizens a project – which eventually lost all political viability – as the way out to stop marriage between same-sex couples. This, in reference to the initiative promoted by the independent bloc New Republic and the Christian Social Unity Party.
