Riots in San José on Monday afternoon

December 13, 2016 by Staff News Writer

On Monday afternoon rains and riots filled the capital. The video reveals how the confrontations between street vendors and police officers began in downtown San José.

The incident occurred in Central Avenue and 8th Street, next to the Central Market at the time that the Municipal Police conducted a search on a group of peddlers who sold pirate records. In parallel, there was a discussion between several street vendors on the Second Avenue.

The fight, said Marcelo Solano, director of Municipal Police, “required the presence of municipal police and the security forces, but the situation was brought under control.”

The riots were controlled, but 3 people were arrested. 2 of them for alteration to the public order and one for aggression to a police officer.
