Road deaths decreased in the first five months of the year

June 6, 2018 by Staff News Writer

In May, 30 people lost their lives in traffic accidents. It is the lowest number of road fatalities reported since last February, when 28 fatalities were registered. If you compare May with April, the number of deceases was reduced in 11 and they were 14 less than in March, when 44 deaths were reported.

The director of the Traffic Police Germán Marín highlighted that May is the month with less deaths per day so far this year. In the 28 days of February there were 28 cases, one per day. However, May only had 0.97 cases per day.

In 2017, 35 road deaths were reported in May, five more than this year, while in the same month of 2016, 38 deaths were reported.

The commitment is always the same but also every so often, we must modify some work dynamics that allow us to attack new behaviors or ways of evading controls. That is where the strategy and approaches of the Police Operations Department take on great value. Just as the habits of road factors change, so must our road work dynamics,”

said Marín.

In the first five months of 2018 there were 178 fatalities on the road, 36 less than those registered in the same period of 2017.
