Santa Ana Red Cross warns about scam

March 14, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Santa Ana Red Cross Committee denied that it was preparing a fair for the entity in the area.

The clarification was due to the fact that during the past week, a woman went to three businesses in the area to ask for money on behalf of the entity, in order to place sponsorships for the activity.

According to Esteban Lemus, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Santa Ana Red Cross Committee, it appears that

last week, a woman named Monica went to a mechanical workshop that provides services for the Red Cross to offer advertising in an alleged fair. The woman charged the shops in exchange for placing the name of their company in a poster for the fair, but […] the owner immediately talked to us. The amount she asked for was 50,000 colones.”

According to Lemus, the same thing happened with another mechanical workshop and a clothing company.

For this reason, it is very important for us to let the community know that we are not asking for money for such activity… When in doubt, go call the administrator of the entity at 2282 5355.”

There is an ongoing investigation to solve this case.
