Seismic swarm detected in Ciudad Colón, Santa Ana and Escazú

June 1, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Since early April, the National Seismological Network (RSN) has detected 26 earthquakes in Escazú, Santa Ana and Ciudad Colón.

This swarm of earthquakes has been characterized by magnitudes between 1.8 and 3.3 degrees, with an average depth of less than 13 km.

The trend in the epicenters suggests that Salitral and Escazú Faults could be the source of the seismic activity.
